Synopsis
In this often shocking memoir, Melodie Nelson vividly tells the story of her three years working as a female escort. Having started with webcam autoeroticism to earn extra money, she soon found virtual sex unfulfilling and decided to join an escort service. Dismissing clichés and stereotypes, her book recounts in intimate detail her experiences, both good and bad. Melodie describes her clients, the ones she liked, the ones she didn't, the ones who were rough, the ones who were submissive. From maintaining the fantasy bedroom she created to play "Barbie Doll."
Neither a nymphomaniac nor a drug addict, Melodie for the most part enjoyed her time in the sex industry. She delivers an honest, nuanced portrait of the life of a sex worker, told with a terrific sense of humor. Melodie shares her erotic expertise with the reader and deliberately challenges common perceptions about prostitution, without in any way becoming its advocate.
Melodie details the impact her job had on her relationships with her mother, boyfriend, and friends. In the end, she explains her reasons for quitting despite the temptations of fast money and the lifestyle it supported. It was for the most classic reason of all: she fell in love and had to choose between her man and her job. Melodie's memoir is an unvarnished glimpse of a world many talk about but few understand.
